A MORNING
PRAYER
As, Lord, I travel through the day,
Please go ahead to clear my way
Of ills as yet unknown to me
That could a trap or danger be.
Bless, Lord, the people whom I meet
In office, shop or busy street.
May they be glad and not regret
That I it was whom they had met.
Grant too that I may recognise
Thy blessings in whatever guise.
When troubles come as troubles do,
Give wit and strength to see me
through.
Protect the young from every hurt;
To foolish wrong keep them alert.
Find friendly help for sick and old,
A roof for homeless, warmth for cold.
May those who doubt, in Thee confide.
When we’re confused, be light and
guide.
Remember those whom we hold dear
Who to Thy Presence have drawn near.
When day has run, may I not fear
That I have caused a needless tear,
Nor hesitate ere sleep’s begun
To tell you all the things I’ve done.
Then help me, Lord, to breathe a
prayer
That I sleep safely in Thy care,
And give me rest all through the
night
That I may start next day aright.
