British Airways Band
25 March 2000

The concert given given by the British Airways Band in our church on the 25
March was a wonderful evening's entertainment in support of our Roof Appeal
Fund.
Our most sincere thanks to Musical Director Martin Hayter, members of the
band and all those who helped to stage this event - undoubtedly likely to prove
the highlight of our fund-raising activities in 2000. We do hope you will come
and visit us again soon.
British Airways Band
Professional, Polished and Entertaining - these are just a few words that can
best describe the highly acclaimed British Airways band. This successful group
has performed at events throughout the world, winning numerous trophies, cups
and awards, and wherever the Band plays, there are always many requests for its
return.
Formed in 1972, simply to provide relaxation for off duty employees, the band
was soon to become known internationally and in great demand. Its first formal
engagement was in April 1973, with a concert at a rehabilitation centre in Egham.
In the year after the first engagement sixteen more performances were given,
with the Band's first overseas visit to Oslo in 1974.
Since its conception, the engagements have been varied. As well as concerts,
it has also taken part in contests, carnivals, parades, church services and
naming ceremonies. The Band has also appeared on television and radio in several
countries, made three recordings and, in 1995, were honoured to be invited to
play at Buckingham Palace in the presence of H.M. The Queen and H.R.H. Prince
Charles.
Highlights during the Band's history have been its foreign visits, which have
included Belgium, France, Holland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland,
Luxembourg, Germany, USA, Egypt, South Africa and Jakarta.
The Band's Public Relations potential is also recognised by British Airways
and has been a valuable asset at promotions on many occasions, including
appearing at the Airline's Annual General Meeting in London.
With an extensive variety of music to suit all occasions, the Band is
completely versatile and able to accommodate special requirements such as
fanfare and ensemble playing.
