ST WILFRID'S FLOWER FESTIVAL
Autumn Glory
24th 26th September, 1999
At
Harvest Festival last year the seed of and idea was planted which over a cup of
coffee with a few friends developed into a desire to stage a flower festival at
St. Wilfrids during the same weekend this year.
Although
there was much trepidation at the beginning, everyone gave their full support
and once plans were underway I had great faith that our team of flower arrangers
would rise to the challenge and produce something quite spectacular. Well they
certainly did just that and I have no doubt there was a great deal of spiritual
inspiration at work in our church during the days of preparation.
Over
thirty flower arrangers took part, mountains of green foliage filled the church
for two days, and it needed three trips to the wholesalers to collect all the
flowers but on Thursday evening when all was in place I think we were all a
little moved by the scene before us.
A
very sincere thank you to all who worked so hard to put the flower festival
together and to those who offered their services in many ways over the three
days it was open. It was a very happy and joyful weekend which generated a great
deal of friendship and fellowship amongst both helpers and visitors.
