Mission Action Plan for St. Wilfrid's Church

Most of the 500 parish churches in Sussex were represented at the Caritas08 event held at the Brighton Centre on 21st June, 2008. Just over 6,000 people attended the event  based on an extended  Eucharist presided over by John Hind, the Bishop of Chichester assisted by the Area Bishops of Horsham, Lewes  and which ended with a grand procession to Hove’s Peace Statue for the blessing.

Main speakers were John Sentamu, Archbishop of York and Graham James, Bishop of Norwich. Bishop James  ended his address by inviting parish representatives to bring their Mission Action Plans forward to the Chichester diocesan bishops.

Our Mission Action Plan was presented by Adam May,
a member of St Wilfrid's Church, to the Bishop of Horsham,
The Right Reverend Lindsey Urwin OGS at the Caritas event in Brightonon Saturday 21st June 2008.

Below are details of the Mission Action Plan as presented at Caritas and links to further information/ updates as they occur.

Mission Action Plan 2008

We believe that both individually and corporately as a church family, we are accountable for our response to the Word of God. In Mark Chapter 12, verses 30 and 31, when Jesus was asked which is the most important commandment, he replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these”. It is with these words in our hearts and foremost in our minds that we have considered our Mission Action Plan for the years ahead.

Our plan for 2008-2009 is to focus particularly on community outreach:

June - September 2008
Special emphasis on Back to Church Sunday using the resource of recently established marketing and house groups.

October 2008
Parish Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham.

October – December 2008
Evaluate better use of Church and Hall buildings and obtain costings for agreed improvements. In particular, consideration should be given to the following:

• Better seating, including choir stalls
• Use of the North Porch as Visitor Centre
• Improvements to children’s area
• Improvements to kitchen area and storage facilities

November 2008
Critical Mass

April 2009
Members of the Church to attend event at Pakefield

October/November 2009
Review and plan for 2010-2011

2009-2010

We believe God is calling us to focus particularly on ministry to youth.
This we will do by enhancing our family services, and by holding a Fan the Flame mission in October/November 2009.

2010-2011

Our focus will probably be on better stewardship through the Centenary Celebrations and the issues arising from them.
