Junior Church

Children are specially welcome at St. Wilfrid’s and in Junior Church we accept children from the age of 3 to 11 (note it is required that children under the age of 5 are accompanied by a parent).

As from September we will split the Junior Church group into two – those under 7 and 7 up wards. Because of the much younger age and the overall change in the make-up of the group, we are following the year A calendar until Christmas 2009, then year B etc. We have reading, discussions and craft and are working on song and singing because not everybody likes it! In the spring and summer we will have our classes outside under the cherry tree as from this year now that the whole area is secure. Special events in our yearly calendar include: Harvest Festival, All Saint, Remembrance Sunday, Saint Wilfrid’s day, Christmas, Epiphany (with cake), Lent (pancakes!), Good Friday, Easter, Ascension and Pentecost. The children meet every Sunday at 10:30am in the Church Hall (except the third Sunday in the month which is a Family Eucharist see below) and later join the rest of congregation for the final part of the Sunday Eucharist. On the third Sunday of the month there is a special Family Eucharist at which all children including the children and staff from Nyewood Infant and Junior School are present and contribute to leading our service.If you would like your children to join us or have further queries please contact Estelle Meagher at

Note - Junior Church finished on 13th July and will recommence after the summer holidays on Sunday 7th September. However children don't have to miss out during the summer recess as our Wendy Morris is organizing a HOLIDAY CLUB - see below.

Treasure Hunt Hello! The Summer Holidays are here, and just in case you were wondering what to do (Unlikely, I know!) we have compiled a treasure hunt for the WHOLE CHURCH to enjoy. The idea is that EVERY BODY receives a copy of the page of things to collect, and then sets about collecting together as many of the items on the list as possible. Your collection should fit into your A4 plastic pocket, and the deadline for handing in your collection is Sunday 7th September. You will notice that each item is worth a set amount of points - and there is the chance to double your points on some items by fulfilling the set criteria. In total there is the opportunity to earn 2500 points! A "league table" will be compiled in September for us to see how well we all did and a prize giving ceremony will follow! Three of the boxes include coins - which is the fundraising element of this activity. You will also however notice that greater value of points has been given to other items that may take a bit more effort (and enjoyment) to find but cost nothing. Many of the items are being collected to use for future planned craft activities, and everything will be put to a good use! We hope that everyone who belongs to our church family will want to take part, and we look forward to bumping into you on the beach, at the park, on the train station - and of course, in church! Care of Children They often seem to feel comfortable and at home in the building, and enjoy the colourful activity of worship, and its quieter moments.
If you feel the need to take a restless child out of the
service, there is a comfortable room set aside for this where our junior church
meets.
Everyone who works with children here at St Wilfrid’s has been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau. We follow strict diocesan guidelines and have specialist advisers available. Further information can be obtained from our Junior Church Leader or Child Protection Officer. |
