Funeral Service Andrew Richard Parr Friday 5th June, 2009 conducted by Rev. John Harrington, Rector of Selsey The service took place of Police Inspector Andy Parr at St. Wilfrid's Church on Friday 5th June. The service was conducted by a close friend of the family the Rev. John Harrington, Rector of Selsey. Over 420 people attended the most moving service including hundreds of his police colleagues. Andy Parr, 42, father-of-three, lived in Bognor, and had spent 18 years in a series of posts with Sussex Police. He joined the force in 1991 after beginning his career with the Metropolitan Police. Inspector Parr's sudden death caused shock and disbelief across Sussex Police. Chief Constable Martin Richards said: "It is with great sadness I have to tell colleagues of the sudden and tragic death of Inspector Andy Parr. "Andy was a popular and valued member of our team. My thoughts and condolences go to his family, as well as his many friends and colleagues.” Insp. Parr's career in Sussex included stints in the North Downs division, covering Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex, and at Gatwick and Bognor. He spent several years in Brighton and Hove running the support team which carries out drugs raids and executes warrants on wanted or suspected criminals. Chief Superintendent Graham Bartlett said: "Andy was a fantastic leader in Brighton and Hove. "He was hugely popular and very effective. It is a sad and tragic loss for us all. "People here are devastated and our thoughts are with his family." In 2007, Insp Parr briefly catapulted to national attention when he pledged to put more police on the streets of Brighton on nights when there was a full moon. He said his own research showed there were more incidents on such nights. Last year, he moved to the West Downs division, covering Arun, Adur, Chichester and Worthing, as an inspector responding to serious incidents.
