The Ven. Father Luke Irvine-Capel, the new Archdeacon of
Chichester, was Celebrant and Preacher at our 10:30 Eucharist on Sunday 7th July
Father Luke Irvine-Capel was warmly welcomed by Fr Ray Whelan and congregation to the Parish Eucharist Service on Sunday.
At the conclusion of the Eucharist Father Luke made the following announcement about the candidate who had been proposed to lead the Apostolic Partnership:
“This morning I have been asked to share with you some unexpected news. For very good reasons the candidate identified to lead the Apostolic Partnership proposed in the Parish has withdrawn. Obviously, this comes as a disappointment to you and to all who are involved in discerning the future that God is calling us into. However, Bishop Martin, the partners at St Peter’s, Brighton, and the wider Diocesan family remain absolutely committed to St Wilfrid’s and to all who minister and worship here. We will continue to work together with you as we identify the priest that God is calling to serve this Parish and community. This has always been a journey of faith, and we trust in the faithful God who is working out his purposes in us. May I take this opportunity to thank the Church Wardens, PCC, retired clergy, and all who continue to sustain and encourage the life of the Church in this place. I will, of course, be meeting with the Church Wardens and others on a regular basis as we look confidently and expectantly to the future.”
